Material science is often a mad dash toward the next exotic composite or rare metal alloy. Yet, when it comes down to the trenches of true industrial implementation, quite often the smartest solution is a compromise between the chemistry and practicality. It is not because they are by far the shiniest option available, but due to a molecular structure that enables them to break all of the common limits of synthetic polymers that have caused high density polyethylene sheets to rise as the foundation of global infrastructure.
