Why HDPE Sheets Are the Industry Standard

Material science is often a mad dash toward the next exotic composite or rare metal alloy. Yet, when it comes down to the trenches of true industrial implementation, quite often the smartest solution is a compromise between the chemistry and practicality. It is not because they are by far the shiniest option available, but due to a molecular structure that enables them to break all of the common limits of synthetic polymers that have caused high density polyethylene sheets to rise as the foundation of global infrastructure. This material, commonly referred to as HDPE, is perhaps the highest achievement of petroleum engineering where density and chain branching have been optimized to produce something that’s near indestructible under normal operating conditions.
